Tuesday 08, September 2015

EDP is part of the Dow Jones World Sustainability Index for the 8th year in a row

For the eight consecutive year, EDP makes part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. This reflects the company's efforts to integrate sustainability in all areas of the value chain, across all Business Units and all countries in which we are present. As far as EDP is concerned, its efforts to gain admission to the Dow Jones Indexes have enabled it to delineate clear goals regarding a sustainable activity. The constant assessment of the Company and updating of the criteria have created and undeniable rigour within the Group, in all its spheres of operation.

The company's practices that are assessed for admission to the Index involve the following areas:

  • Creation of value (for Shareholders; increased productivity and efficiency; commitment to Customer orientation, among others);
  • Efficient use of resources;
  • Biodiversity and environment protection;
  • Integrity;
  • Dialogue with stakeholders (open and transparent relations with customers, investors, suppliers, employees; credible reporting of company performance in all areas);
  • Management of human capital (implementing systems to ensure health, safety and well-being of employees, encouraging skill development, rejecting abusive and discriminatory practices);
  • Promotion of acess to energy;
  • Support for social development.

This index is a very selective and demanding assesment of the sustainability performance of companies and their adaptation to market trends. This year 3375 companies listed on the S&P Global BMI stock market were analysed, with less than 10% being listed in the final index.
